As part of the festivities commemorating the 172th anniversary of the discovery and naming of Mount Kosciuszko by Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki, the newly formed Australian organization ‘Strzelecki Heritage Inc.’ wishes to invite distinguished guests and competitors to participate in these festivities. This will be a commemoration not only for the Australian Polish Community, but for all Poles who take pride in the achievements of their national heroes.

The Kosciuszko National Park, located in the state of New South Wales, Australia, will be the venue for the run to the top of Mount Kosciuszko. The run will commence at 9.00am on the 12th of February 2012 from the outside the Charlotte Pass Chalet in Charlotte Pass Village, off the Kosciuszko Road in Kosciuszko National Park,  (elevation 1730 metres). After the start the course follows the village entry road 750m up to Kosciuszko Road, turns left and follows the Kosciuszko Road 1km to the start of the Summit Walk off the Charlotte Pass lookout carpark. It is then 9.27 kms to the finish at the summit..The 8.6 km section from the Start Line to Rawson Pass (location of Public Toilets) will be along a wide roadway easily able to accommodate a heavy vehicle. The roadway is solid and naturally compacted. Further along the course the roadway will gradually narrow. The final kilometre of the course is a fairly steep rise along a narrow pathway, in some places only one metre wide. The run will conclude and the clock for each competitor will be stopped as the runner touches the Summit Marker at  elevation 2228 metres. The course layout for the Kosciuszko Run 2010 is 11 km as follows: 2.28 km will be an uphill leg, the next 7.77 km will be on the flat and 0.59 km will be on a downhill slope.

The total course distance is 11 km. This event will be governed by rules stipulated by the Kosciuszko National Park Authority and the Organizing Committee. These rules are primarily designed to ensure the safety of all competitors and participants. At registration, each of the participants must supply all the necessary information and familiarise themselves with the rules governing this event. Any competitor or participant not abiding by the said rules will (for the good of the overall event) will be asked to leave the event.

As organisers, we wish to impress upon the local and park authorities that we are responsible people who have respect for one another even in a competitive environment. We wish to show that we value the natural environment, are proud of our natural heritage and see great value in ensuring that we can preserve these natural treasures for generations to come.

Naturally, all competitors aim to win. However, the very act of participation in such a significant event will be a huge achievement in itself and a fitting way to honour our national hero, Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the ‘Kosciuszko Run 2012’ and ‘Strzelecki Heritage Inc.’ I look forward to your participation in this event.
